We started out as an online B2B venue with 2-3 people working the phones.
When Mike Connors and several other founders/investors first launched Bulbs.com in 1999, fluorescent, HID, and CFL technology were dominant, the internet was still in its infancy, and the lighting sales process was more conventional. Times have definitely changed.

LED lighting market to top $34 billion

The LED lighting market will be worth $34.64 billion, says Digitimes Research, accounting for 31.3% of total lighting market value.
LED light bulbs will account for 28.2% of all types of light bulbs (penetration) in 2016 and the penetration will be 32.8% for LED projection lamps, and 17.3% for LED light tubes, says Digitimes.

Oringinal L-Prize Competition Winning LED Bulb from Philips Reaches Over 40,000 Hours of Actual Testing
In 2011, Philips won the first Bright Tomorrow Lighting Prize known as the L Prize competition sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy with its 60-Watt equivalent LED-based bulb. The DOE required that a lamp produce 900 lumens and have 90 CRI or better to be considered equivalent to a 60-Watt incandescent bulb. The DOE tested all of the entrants into the 2011 competition for 18 months before declaring the Philips LED bulb the winner. The DOE awarded $10 million for winning the competition.

Philips Lighting has opened the LED-centric GrowWise Center in Eindhoven to study light recipes for plant growth while Purdue University has conducted
The Philips GrowWise City Farming research center in Eindhoven, the Netherlands has opened for research into increasing agricultural yields using LED horticultural lighting in precise mixes or recipes of color and intensity. Purdue University, meanwhile, has announced the results of a research project growing lettuce in tight vertical layers with LEDs placed near the plant canopy to model what might be the tight space that astronauts experience on deep-space missions such as a trip to Mars.
